Center Shaquille O'Neal returned to the Boston Celtics for the first time in the 2011 playoffs when he entered Game 3 on Saturday of the series vs. the Miami Heat.

The 7-1 center checked into Game 3 of Boston's Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Miami Heat with 2:41 left in the first quarter Saturday. He received a big cheer when he went to the scorer's table, and a standing ovation when he went into the game.

It was his first action of the 2011 playoffs.

O'Neal has played just 5 minutes, 29 seconds since Feb. 1 because of injuries to his right calf and Achilles' tendon.

But the Celtics needed him, down 2-0 to the Heat. No NBA team has come back to win a seven-game series down 3-0.

O'Neal, who won an NBA championship with Dwyane Wade and the Heat in 2006, hit his first basket on a reverse layup, then hobbled down the court, looking down at his legs.

He played almost five minutes in the first half in his first stints.
